The combination of lockdown lifting and warmer weather really has me in the mood to BRUNCH. Is there anything better than a lazy lie-in on the weekend followed by a delicious brunch with friends? The lack of this beautiful tradition in Sweden really had this basic girl feeling deprived, and you can bet that the second restaurants opened again, I was booking brunch reservations like nobody’s business. Lucky for me, there are SO many places to brunch in Edinburgh, and today I’ll take you through 5 places you need to check out.

Need some yummy brunch recommendations for the weekend? Keep scrolling!

1.New Town Fox

Located in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic New Town, New Town Fox is a cozy, local restaurant with a modern twist on classic Scottish dishes. From quintessentials like  full Scottish breakfast to avocado toast and pancakes (sold separately!), New Town Fox has something for everyone. My personal favourite is the Veggie Stack – a take on the full Scottish breakfast with potato scones, halloumi, vegan sausage, and topped with fried or poached egg. Don’t forget to pair your brunch with one of their coffees or speciality hot chocolates that come in the most adorable fox mugs! 🦊

2. Down the Hatch

A Canadian take on brunch, Down the Hatch is the perfect place to refuel after a big night. Self described as North American influenced food, with quality locally sourced ingredients, their skillets take brunch to the next level.  Be sure to come back at lunch or dinner to try their fun array of Canadian classics including burgers, tater tots, and poutine. 🍳

3. Montpeliers

Located in the heart of charming Bruntsfield, Montpeliers has been a local favourite for over twenty years. Boasting an extensive drinks menu and tasty dishes from local suppliers,  Montpeliers’ serves all day brunch 7 days a week. The vibrant atmosphere, friendly service, and top notch food all make Montpelier is a must try. Step through the floral-lined entrance and see for yourself what all the fuss is about!

4.  Loudons

As one of  Edinburgh’s award winning cafes, Loudons is well known as one of the best places for brunch in the city. They’ve recently opened a beautiful new location at New Waverly, which is super central and right behind the Royal Mile. With a modern but cozy atmosphere, Loudons is a great place to meet for brunch, and caters to a variety of dietary needs. My top pic is the Veggie Breakfast, of course paired with a mimosa or bellini! 🥂

5. Laila

When I heard about the self-proclaimed “Home of the Instagramable Food” spot opening, I had to see what all the hype was about. These days restaurants tend to have to taste good AND look good on customer’s insta feeds – a combo that can be tricky! The food here is definitely pretty – my eggs benedict were PINK! The pink colour was actually due to the beetroot hollandaise sauce, which I’m a big fan of, and would def order again! If you’re in the mood for something sweet, they have plenty of options from pancakes with rose sauce and candy floss (cotton candy) to ruby red waffles with cream and chocolate chips. A really pink colour theme here! 💖

A note on the drinks – while the Unicorn and Lucky Charm latte sound and look fun, I wasn’t necessarily a fan of the taste. Nice for a picture, but I next time I would swap for a mimosa and go elsewhere for a good coffee.
